Harrie Weinans completed his PhD in 1991 at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. After a postdoc period in 1994 at Rush Medical Center Chicago, he returned to the Netherlands where he received a fellowship from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and continued an academic career in orthopaedic science. He is professor in ‘Tissue Biomechanics and Implants’ and works at the UMC Utrecht and TU Delft. He received numerous research grants from national and international (EU) funding agencies and has published over 300 peer reviewed publications related to bone and joint diseases. He was the primary advisor of >30 PhD candidates and currently guides 10 PhD candidates and 4 postdocs/assistant professors. His current research involves bone and cartilage diseases with a special focus on osteoarthritis and orthopaedic implants.
